SEEDING THE FIELD (Updated 4/24)
Here's the official field for the 152nd Kentucky Derby, along with the official odds and Meadow of Shame seeding for each odds as of Saturday, April 25 -- 7 days before the race.
NOTE: When two or more horses have the same odds of winning, they are seeded alphabetically.
I'll update the odds, and the seeds if needed, daily at 8 am Pacific through Saturday, May 2 -- 8 hours before the race. Odds changes after that will be irrelevant to our pool. You may edit your picks until 12 Noon Pacific on May 2 -- 4 hours before the race. Because there is no software program with which to submit and score the entries, the submission deadline is 4 hours before the race in order to post everyone's picks at least 3 hours prior to post time.
Following the race, I hope to post results within 30 minutes. But the straightforward scoring should allow you to calculate your own results within minutes.
SCORING
You only receive points for the horses whose EXACT finish you predict. Like the Bread Pool, picking higher seeds pays off when you nail it; conversely, the more conservative your choice, the less points you earn.
Two examples: If you pick 15th-seeded Albus to finish third and he does, you earn 45 points (15 x 3) from that pick; correctly picking race favorite Renegade to win is worth 5 points (1 x 5).
Feel free to pick the same horse to finish in multiple positions. For example, if you feel strongly that 12th-seeded Silent Tactic will compete but don't want to get hemmed in by your prediction, you may opt to pick Silent Tactic as your 4th- and 5th-place finisher.
